It is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first, who entered Edo around 1590 brought about Edo lacquerware factory in Kyoto. Painting and technology of lacquer work made progress and was completed in the time of general Tsunayoshi. General Yashiro and later Kyoho of Yoshimune, began to spread lacquerware daily among the common people.
Today, various products including tea ceremony wares and low-tables are produced, and particularly, production of commercial tableware, such as buckwheat tools and eel nest boxes are Tokyo's features.
