After the technique was handed down from China in Nara era in the old days, it developed rapidly, and it is said that in history, braiding was samurais' occupation in Edo Period. Its uses have changed variously over time.
Braids displayed on armors were used much as male belongings in the consumption of the arms until the Edo Period. However, from the Meiji era, it became objects for women such as in obi banding. And it is more widely used in banding and tying up of a cell phone straps.
