Stamp Carving

The origin of stamp carving is said to trace its history back to before the common era, 4,000 years ago in Mesopotamia, and the usage of stamps as a method of official verification continues into the present day, especially in East and Southeast Asia.
Here in Taito ward, stamps brimming with originality continue to be produced, characters and designs carved into natural wood such as that of the cherry tree, tea plants, and camellias, illustrating the area’s deep roots in the stamp carving tradition.
Both the quality of the wood and the warmth imbued into each hand-carved character are the most alluring points of these stamps.
