The impressive lion mask, Buddha statue and the expressive wood sculpture has warmth to take a look as long as you like. The work of wood sculpture and the richly colored mirror where can see in Nikko Tosyougu has high artistic quality so they made me feel like coming to an art museum.

You can observe the workplace if you want.
Mr. Yokoya Akinori and Mr. Yokoya Mitsuaki was carving the sculpture for shrines and temples to decorate on the front of shrine when we visit.
Usually, they are making products for exhibitions and small objects so it was good experience to watch their work.

We could observe the warehouse on the second floor specially.
There is the original picture of a Buddhist priest training was worked with Mr. Yokoya Koichi!
Generally, the sculptor will make a rough sketch and sculpting but they will do everything by themselves in Sosyu.
We asked to Mr. Yokoya Mitsuaki and he said ‘We did not learn about it but we could well.’

‘Sosyu’ is telling the great skill of wood sculpture, improving the skill of their tradition and also putting effort to training the young. This is valuable place to able to watch the wood sculpture in Tokyo.
You will have a chance to see a dynamic sculpture as this time.
Please come to see the skill of their tradition!
